The commercial law firm Orth Kluth has gained Margarete von Oppen as a new partner for its energy law practice group. Together with Ms von Oppen, lawyer Maximilian Grett and European lawyer Maria-Eleni Prifti will join Orth Kluth on 1 January 2024, expanding the energy law practice group’s supra-regional energy law expertise with a partner at the Berlin office. Margarete von Oppen and her team previously worked at the law firm Arnecke Sibeth Dabelstein in Berlin.
Lawyer Margarete von Oppen (57) specialises in energy law, project development of plants for the generation of electricity or heat from renewable energies and specific issues relating to the electricity market, including the marketing of electricity with and without subsidies under the EEG. Ms von Oppen has also contributed to numerous publications and is a member of the relevant energy industry associations. Her clients include well-known project developers, ministries, associations, insurance companies and banks. She studied law in Würzburg, Heidelberg, Paris and Strasbourg and specialises in administrative law.
Maximilian Grett (36) studied law in Hanover and advises on renewable energy law, energy industry law and construction planning law issues, including project-related support for energy infrastructure projects, with a focus on the realisation of decentralised generation plants. He was most recently Counsel at Arnecke Sibeth Dabelstein and joins Orth Kluth as Senior Associate.
Maria-Eleni Prifti (29) studied law in Thessaloniki and has been working as a practising European lawyer since completing her Master of Laws at Humboldt University in Berlin. She has been supporting Margarete von Oppen’s team as a project lawyer since 2019. She joins Orth Kluth as a project lawyer.
Margarete von Oppen’s team will in future expand the scope of energy law advice with the partners Dafni Nikolakudi and Dr Michael Sitsen as well as the salary partner Dr Dominika Stachurski.
Düsseldorf partner Dafni Nikolakudi comments: “We warmly welcome Margarete von Oppen to the partnership! With the change of her team, we are sharpening our profile as a full-service law firm and strengthening ourselves in an absolutely future-oriented area that is of central importance to our clients. Together with our existing experience in energy law, in particular in the areas of hydrogen, photovoltaics and wind energy or in transactions involving energy generation plants or grids, this will result in significant added value for our clients.”
“I am looking forward to joining the dynamic team at Orth Kluth. My decades of expertise in the energy law sector, together with Orth Kluth’s know-how, offer numerous points of contact and opportunities for my clients,” said Margarete von Oppen.
With the addition of Margarete von Oppen and the recruitment of Maximilian Grett and Maria-Eleni Prifti, the law firm is continuing to consistently realise its growth plans and is strategically strengthening its Berlin office with this addition. The Berlin office has thus grown significantly to 18 lawyers within three years.
