PROFILE
Margarete von Oppen has been a lawyer since 1997 and a specialist in administrative law since 2001. She has a focus on renewable energy law since 2005 and has since then been advising on the project development of renewable energy generation plants, in particular ground-mounted photovoltaic systems and, since 2022, battery storage systems. She advises project developers, banks, and the public sector (including the Federal Ministry of Economics) on all issues relating to the life cycle of ground-mounted photovoltaic systems and storage facilities. This includes securing the land under civil law, securing the projects under public law (e.g., building permits, urban land-use planning), issues relating to grid connection, and the marketing of electricity under the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) and without subsidies, i.e., by long-term electricity supply contracts (PPA).
With her knowledge and experience, she has accompanied many project sales (Due Diligence, drafting of all necessary contracts excepted SPAs). After initial professional positions with a real estate project developer and a medium-sized law firm, Margarete von Oppen ran her own law firm for 16 years, during which time she established and expanded the business around the project development of energy generation plants.
After seven years as a partner in a large medium-sized law firm, she has been a partner at the law firm orka since January 2024. There, she is responsible for the area of energy law and is directly responsible for a team of four other lawyers. Margarete von Oppen was a lecturer in construction planning law at a university of applied sciences for several years. She initiated an elective course entitled “Project Development for Electrical Engineers” at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences (HTW) and was a lecturer there for several years. She is a regular speaker at industry events and holds webinars on current issues relating to renewable energies. She is a member of the executive committee of Climate Tech Hub Berlin, a regional industry network, and a member of professional associations, including the German Solar Industry Association and the German New Energy Industry Association.
